First Meeting of Summer 2004 Campaign:

Wed. May 12, 7pm

Michigan Union, 2nd floor, Room 2105B

The Michigan Battered Women's Clemency Project is a grassroots nonprofit group (3 attorneys, 1 artist/UofM professor, 1 activist/founder, plus volunteer attorneys, former prisoners, domestic violence professionals, students, and citizens) seeking freedom for women wrongly convicted of murder who killed their abusers in self defense but never received fair trials or due process based on the facts of their cases.

These are women who are serving life or long term sentences in Michigan prisons.

This summer we are again preparing clemency petitions for a group of these women to ask Governor Granholm to consider their cases, writing letters of support for women to the parole board, researching new cases, doing publicity, planning the fall rally, and other advocacy and visibility efforts.

If you are willing to attend 6-8 meetings over the summer and do research and/or advocacy on behalf of women prisoners, come to the first meeting and/or please contact Carol Jacobsen, jacobsen@umich.edu
